BidJS v5 introduced the Global Search feature. Unlike the in-auction search tool, which only returns items from a specific auction, Global Search finds any item in any publicly available auction you have hosted with BidJS.
To find an item, users must type in at least three characters, at which point BidJS uses fuzzy search algorithms to return items that best match the search criteria entered. Users will be presented with a drop-down of up to 30 matching items, which when clicked, take the user straight to the bidding page for that item.
Global search will index any item that is set to a status of Live within the BidJS admin and return items to the user based on the text within the Title and Summary of the items.
How do I install Global Search into my BidJS instance?
Add Global Search to your BidJS by following the instructions in our technical help documentation here and customise the placeholder content for Global Search by following the help document here.
What is fuzzy search?
When searching for a product online, but you're not exactly sure how it's spelt or what the exact words are fuzzy search helps with that! It's like having a super-smart search engine that can understand what you're trying to find, even if you make a mistake in typing or if the words are slightly different from what's on the webpage. So, instead of getting frustrated when you can't remember the exact words, fuzzy search helps you find what you need more easily. It's like having a helpful friend who knows what you're thinking, even if you don't express it perfectly!
