To ensure a smooth Webcast auction experience, it's important to meet the minimum video streaming requirements for the Vonage Video API (formerly TokBox), which powers the live streaming technology in BidJS.
For full details on recommended settings and supported configurations, please refer to the official Vonage Video API documentation.
Minimum Bandwidth Recommendations
Vonage recommends the following baseline network bandwidth per media stream:
Video: ~300 kbps per stream (recommended lowest level)
Audio: ~50 kbps per stream (recommended lowest level)
These values represent the minimum needed to reasonably support a single video stream. Actual performance will improve with higher speeds.
Higher Quality Video Streaming
If you intend to stream high-quality video (e.g. 1080p at 30fps), you may need:
3–4.5 Mbps or more sustained upload speed for reliable performance
1 mbps = 1,000 kbps
Testing and Network Best Practice
Before your webcast auction, it’s recommended to:
Run a broadband speed test to confirm you have at least 350 kbps upload and download available
Factor in total stream count — the more streams, the higher your total bandwidth requirements
Tips for a Stable Streaming
Use a wired (Ethernet) connection wherever possible
Avoid sharing the same internet connection with other high-usage devices during the stream
Test in advance if streaming from a mobile device or remote venue
If possible, stream from a separate device than the one used for clerking
⚠️ Important:
Always test your set up BEFORE the day of the event, to make sure your equipment is working as expected and there are no issues with your connection.
