There are two types of online auctions:

  • Timed Auctions

  • Webcast (Live) Auctions

Timed Auctions

Represented by the following symbol next to the auction title:

A timed auction is a collection of items (lots) that are available for online bidding only.
Each item has a set end time, at which point it will be sold to the highest bidder.

Sometimes, during a timed auction, you may have the option to make an offer or buy a lot immediately.

Webcast Auctions

Represented by the following symbol next to the auction title:

A webcast auction includes a pre-bidding phase, which works similarly to a timed auction.
However, it also includes a live element, where online bidders can join the auction in real time.

Online bidders compete against:

  • In-room bidders

  • Other online participants

Some auctioneers may also display video or audio streams to help online bidders follow the live auction.

It’s just like being in the room—only from anywhere in the world.

Bidding Requirements

To place a bid in either type of auction:

  1. Create an account

  2. Sign in

  3. Register for the auction

  4. Be approved by the auctioneer

Once approved, you are free to bid as you wish.
